30 Days Challenge 017.

Good thing I have this challenge, otherwise I’d be sharing all the boring details about me trying to catch up on Statistics Me being sick for the first two weeks of the semester resulted in missing a buttload of classes, and now I feel like a little girl, lost in the Black Forest of Statistical Doom… Muhhh!

But enough about that!

’3 TV shows you can’t get enough of.’

Supernatural;

To be fair, I wasn’t really psyched for this show at first. I mean… it starred ‘that dude from Gilmore Girls’ and ‘that dude from Dawson’s Creek’ so I was like ‘Riiiiight…’ But I watched the first episode for some reason, and I’ve been hooked ever since. And season 6 just started! I’m so excited

Lost;

I followed this show from beginning to end… And cried during the last episode, omg Good thing I had J. to get me through it, haha! But seriously, it was one of those shows I’d stay home for (luckily for me it was usually on TV on a Friday night, and I tend to be home on Friday nights). There were seasons I feared the show was going to get sucky, but luckily they picked up the pace and it was awesomeness again. I need this show on dvd… *le sigh*

Fringe;

I started watching this show very recently and it has that certain je ne sais quoi. I can’t really name the reasons why I love this show so much, but I do

Now, it’s time to get back to Statistics… but when I’m done there will be a shiny new episode of Supernatural waiting for me to watch Bliss!

30 Days Challenge 016.

Although I enjoy most Jewish holidays, Purim is my favorite just because it is so festive. Now I’m aware not everyone (or almost nobody ) is familiar with it, so I’ll elaborate a bit…

The story of Purim in a nutshell:
The Persian empire of the 4th century BCE extended over 127 lands, and all the Jews were its subjects. When King Ahasuerus had his wife, Queen Vashti, executed for failing to follow his orders, he orchestrated a beauty pageant to find a new queen. A Jewish girl, Esther, found favor in his eyes and became the new queen—though she refused to divulge the identity of her nationality.

Meanwhile, the anti-Semitic Haman was appointed prime minister of the empire. Mordechai, the leader of the Jews (and Esther’s cousin) defied the king’s orders and refused to bow to Haman. Haman was incensed and convinced the king to issue a decree ordering the extermination of all the Jews on the 13th of Adar—a date chosen by a lottery Haman made.

Mordechai galvanized all the Jews, convincing them to repent, fast and pray to God. Meanwhile, Esther asked the king and Haman to join her for a feast. At the feast, Esther revealed to the king her Jewish identity. Haman was hanged, Mordechai was appointed prime minister in his stead, and a new decree was issued—granting the Jews the right to defend themselves against their enemies.

On the 13th of Adar the Jews mobilized and killed many of their enemies. On the 14th of Adar they rested and celebrated.

Lovely, no? What can I say, most biblical stories have the “wait, what?!” effect on me, but trust me, Purim is fun .

For one, at certain points in the reading of the story where Haman’s name is mentioned, it is customary to twirl graggers (Purim noisemakers) and stamp one’s feet to “eradicate” his evil name. It’s also custom to cheer when Mordechai is mentioned, and the kids go absolutely crazy. It’s the one day where you should be as loud as you can.

Also (and I love this), there’s costumes . And for those of us who are not orthodox Jews, there are often parties.

And, like most Jewish holidays – a lot of food is involved… Apart from eating it (obviously), it’s custom to give baskets of food away to your family and friends, but also charity.

So yes, Purim in a nutshell! I don’t know if I’ve done it justice with these bits and parts… If you want to learn more, google!

30 Days Challenge 015.

I’ve started and deleted this post so many times that I was actually thinking about skipping this one altogether. Then again, I think I’ve had the most amazing parents in the world, and I don’t want to just skip over it, cause that would feel… I don’t know, wrong somehow. So we’ll dive right in and be done with it…

The reason this is hard for me is that when I tell people about my dad, I usually get the sympathy smiles, and I really don’t care for those. So what I’ll say is this: In my opinion, I had the best dad in the world and although I wish me and my mom would’ve had more time with him, I truly feel blessed for the time I had him in my life.

As for my mom… she’s amazing. I can’t remember a time in my life where we didn’t get along, although me going through puberty put some strain on our relationship from time to time, ha . She’s my go-to person for everything, whether it’s recipes or relationships, and she never judges. She’s the only one who sees right through me when I put on my “brave face”, and knows when something is wrong with me, even when I’m miles away. People always seem to feel at ease around her from the very first moment they meet, and the ones that don’t usually turn out to be bad news.

And I can go on and on and on…

But I won’t Night, all!

Randomness & 30 Days Challenge 014.

Finally getting a haircut tomorrow and it’s about time, too! If I wait any longer my bangs will reach my chin . Sometimes life gets in the way, it’s just how it is. Now all I need to worry about is how I want it to be cut… My hair is really weird, cut it one way and it’ll be fairly straight – cut it a different way and it curls. For the past few years I mainly wore it straight, but maybe I’m ready for a change… I’ll sleep on it.

For those of you who were wondering; I’m recovering from surgery very well, and I should be ready to get back to classes tomorrow (here’s to hoping!). The stitches still bother me, but it’s not a big scar so I think I’ll survive

And yes, today’s challenge: Three of your favorite quotes.

“Your heart just breaks, that’s all. But you can’t judge, or point fingers. You just have to be lucky enough to find someone who appreciates you.” ~ Audrey Hepburn

“Finish each day, and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities have crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day. You shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.” ~ Emerson

“Peace is always beautiful.” ~ Walt Whitmann
